John (Johnny) Edward Short
John (Johnny) Edward Short, 61, of Commerce, Okla., passed away on April 26, 2016 at the OU Medical Center after a long battle with leukemia.
John was born in Vernon, Texas on Aug. 9, 1954 and resided in Northside, Texas while growing up. He played all sports in school, was chosen class favorite his freshman year, class reporter his junior year, was in FFA and was a prose reader in the UIL competition. John attended VRJC. He was a member of the Fargo Church of Christ and recently a member of the Miami Church of Christ in Miami, Okla.
John is survived by his wife of 33 years, Pat Short of the home; a daughter, Christy Crotzer of Commerce, Okla.; a son Michael Jablonski of Tulsa , Okla.; a granddaughter, Whitney Johnston of Miami, Okla.; a grandson, Cody Panter of Miami, Okla. He is also survived by eight great-grandchildren.
John had six siblings: Don Short and Joyce Holcomb preceded him in death. He is survived by a brother, Richard Short of Garland, Texas; a sister, LaRheasa Cypert of Wichita Falls, Texas; a sister, Rena Standlee of Quitaque, Texas, and a sister, Kay Mabry of Wichita Falls, Texas.
John was also preceded in death by his parents, Preston and Margie Short of Northside, Texas.
He was employed as a parts manager at Pittsburgh Ford in Pittsburgh Kansas for 18 years.
John loved music and played several instruments including harmonica and guitar. He also loved westerns and Louis Lamour books. He wrote many stories himself. John had a black belt in karate.
The celebration of his life will be held at the Church of Christ, 124 B St NW on June 3 at 7 p.m., in Miami, Okla., officiated by Minister Josh Ortiz. A meal will be provided for the family there at 5:30 p.m.
