Stella Frances Cook
CROWELL – Stella Frances Cook, 97, died on Sunday, June 26, 2016 in Abilene. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, June 29, 2016, in the Gilliland Baptist Church in Gilliland with the Rev. Jerry Miller Sr. of Merkel officiating assisted by the Rev. Marq Brockett of Knox City. Interment will be in the Gilliland Cemetery under the direction of Womack-Manard Funeral Home.
Cook was born on April 24, 1919 in Gilliland, a daughter of the late Fred Barnes and Emily Gertrude Lewis McGuire. She married Alton Cook in 1942 in Nevada. She was a graduate of Vernon High School and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in 1965 at Abilene Christian University. She taught school at Rhineland, Gilliland, Lueders, Avoca, Hamlin, Roby, Munday and Crowell. She attended the Gilliland Baptist Church.
Survivors include one daughter, Sherry Miller of Merkel; two sons, Fred Cook of Mesquite and Phillip Cook of Gilliland; seven grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1992 and a daughter, Kay Fanner.
Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., Tuesday, June 28, 2016 at Womack-Manard Funeral Home in Crowell.
