Helen Riggs Woodard

Helen Riggs Woodard passed away Sept. 16 in Payson, Ariz. at the age of 94.
She was born Aug. 14, 1924 in Burnet, Texas and grew up with three sisters. Leona Hughes, Nancy Young and Pat Phinney.
She graduated from Burnet High School in 1942. Helen attended the University of Mary Hardin- Baylor and graduated with a registered nursing degree from Harris School of Nursing in Fort Worth, Texas. She has dedicated her life to nursing in many capacities. She was director of nurses at Henderson County Hospital and taught the OM program there. She was nursing supervisor at Wilbarger General Hospital when she retired in 2004 at the age of 79 and moved to reside with her daughter and son-in-law David in Phoenix, Ariz.
She was preceded in death by husband Stan, son James and grandson Cpt. Christopher Garcia. Surviving family are daughter Lynneal, sons Stan, Terry and Kenneth, grandchildren Denise Garcia, Kelly Garcia, Patrick Woodard, Candace Lensing and Aaron Woodard, nine great-grandchildren, and seven great-great grandchildren.
Burial will be in Athens, Texas at Oaklawn Memorial Park
Visitation will be Friday, Sept. 28, 2018 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Sullivan Funeral Home.
