Lady Lions win season opener
HENRIETTA — The Vernon Lady Lions opened the 2018-19 basketball season with a dominating 53-32 road win at Henrietta on Tuesday night.
Taylor Reeves led the Lady Lions with 12 points followed by 11 from Olivia Stanfill.
The Lady Lions dominated the glass with 67 rebounds to 33 for Henrietta.
Shay Williams grabbed 12 rebounds, with Jalia McBride pulling in 11 boards while Reianna Dixon and Bethany Jones added 10 rebounds each.
Cameron Garza filled out the stat sheet as she had 4 steals, 3 assists, six rebounds and seven deflections to go with nine points, including 1 for 1 from behind the 3-point line.
The Lady Lions played stiff defense, holding the hosts to six first quarter points in building a 13-6 lead after one. Vernon outscored Henrietta in every quarter.
The Lady Lions will be back in action at home this Saturday hosting Nocona. The JV is scheduled for 10 a.m. with the varsity at 11:15 a.m.
