Northside cheerleaders win back-to-back state titles
Northside won the UIL Spirit 1A state championship last week at the Fort Worth Convention Center. It is a back-to-back title, as Northside won state last year as well.
Wilbarger County was well represented, as Harrold also advanced to the championship round and finished fifth in their first ever appearance at state. Paducah was second and Munday third.
Northside posted a score of 89.1, with Paducah scoring 87.77, Munday and Jayton at 85.17, and Harrold scoring 83.53 to round out the top five. Northside won state with an 86.4 score last season.
In the qualifying round, Northside had the top scores in two of the three events from the 26 competing teams: posting top scores in both fight song and band chant, and the second best score in crowd leading. In the finals, the first event Northside build a lead in crowd leading – scoring 45.83, almost a point ahead of Afton Atton Springs next best score at 44.87 and Paducah at 44.2. Harrold was 10th of 10 teams after the first round, but would make a big jump in the next round. The band chant & fight song average saw Munday with a 45.27, Harrold at 43.37 and Northside at 43.27. The cumulative scores gave Northside the title, edging out Paducah for the win.
The Northside team includes seniors Alexis Walser, Kourtnie Guerra, juniors Destiny Nava, Cylynn Freeling, sophomores Kylan Ramos, Aubrey Phillips, Annalina Leos, Adisyn Guerra, Elle Carter, and freshmen Aaryn Acosta, Jimena Bustamante, Keegan Freeling, Laevry Logsdon, and Bella Rytledge. The team is coached by Victoria Armstrong and assistants Allison White, Maddie Gillispie and Kassidy Knight.
The Harrold team includes seniors Luke Rios, Saydee Duncan, Emma Box, juniors Carleigh Ivy, Iyona Willie, sophomores Jaylee Lowe, Abrianna Albineda, Aiden Butler, Marley Lairscy, and freshman FloRissa Richardson.
