HARROLD — Wilbarger County bragging rights and district position were on the line when Harrold hosted Northside on Friday night.
The Indians and Lady Indians prevailed in a pair of hard fought games before a raucous gym of fans.
Lady Hornets host Lady Indians
The Northside Lady Indians pitched a first quarter shut out and led 16-2 as both teams seemed cold coming off the holiday break.
Harrold made a run in the third quarter to cut the lead to single digits but Northside’s Haley Teague scored six straight points and swatted three blocks to fuel a Northside run to a 56-15 win. Teague scored a game high 16. Alexis Matute lead Harrold with 6 points.

Northside vs. Harrold
The Harrold Hornets held a 24-18 lead into the second quarter, but a 24-4 run following a timeout pushed Northside to a big lead and the Indians brought home a 92-59 win.
Harrold’s Hunter Edwards had the hot hand early, hitting 3 of 5 shots in the first quarter and 3 of 6 in the second as the Hornets opened the second quarter on a 10-0 run. Edwards would finish with 20 points.
But the Indians countered with a 10-0 run of their own keyed by Christian Espinoza, who went 6 of 8 in the first half for 19 of his 25 points.

Chillicothe battled Knox City on Friday in a pair of district games. The Lady Eagles prevailed 42-19, while the boys lost 42-22.

Lady Lions fall to Muenster

-The Lady Lions basketball team hosted the Muenster Lady Hornets on Dec. 31 to close out calendar year 2018, but the sting of the bees was too much as the Lady Lions fell 70-54.
Cameron Garza and Reianna Dixon both led in scoring with 13 points each. Dixon led in rebounds with eight followed by Lauren Hager 7, Addison Spencer 6, Bethany Jones 4, Jaila McBride 3 and one each for Olivia Stanfill, Carli White, Taylor Reeves and Shay Williams. Leading in steals was Garza with six followed bon one each from Jones, White and Dixon. Jones led in assists with two followed by one each from Olivia Stanfill White and Reeves.
The Lady Lions will enter its district schedule at Hirschi on Tuesday, Jan. 8, where they will take on the Lady Huskies.

Vernon battles Bearcats

HENRIETTA – The Vernon Lions basketball team traveled to Henrietta Friday night to challenge the Bearcats, but returned home with a four-point loss of 52-48.
Leading in scoring for the Lions was Wade Whatley with 13 points followed by Jacob Boatman with 10.
Anthony Garza led in rebounding with nine followed by Marc Rodriguez 8, Dijae Bailey and Tyler Reeves both 5, Ismael Ortega and Whatley both 4, Boatman 2 and Kreed Ramsey 1. Anthony Garza led in steals with three followed by Reeves and Rodriguez both 2 and Boatman 1. Ortega made four assists followed by Garza 3, Reeves 2, and one each for Whatley, Rodriguez and Boatman. Bailey made two blocks plus one for Whatley.
