The Vernon Lady Lions lost a tough district road game at Burkburnett on Friday, 58-51. The Lady Lions had battled from a 4-point deficit at halftime to take a 33-30 lead into the fourth quarter, but they struggled at the foul line, hitting 8 of 21 while Burk made 17 of 27 to claim the win.
Bethany Jones scored 14 points on 6 of 10 shooting to go with seven rebounds and four steals. Reianna Dixon had 15 points and 14 rebounds.

Lions battle Burk
The Vernon Lions went on the road Friday for district opening play. The Lions took a tough 105-50 loss to the state ranked Bulldogs.
The JV fell 81-55. The young Lions hung tough early, but the Burk depth wore them down in the third quarter. Taylin Brown led Vernon JV with 13 points.
The Lions will be back in action hosting Graham in district on Tuesday, Jan. 15. Graham beat Iowa Park 57-33 in both teams district opener.

Northside vs. Chillicothe
The Northside Indians (3-1) continued their hot start to district with a 43-30 win at Chillicothe (0-4) on Friday. Northside held the hosts to just 2 first quarter points as they built a lead and never looked back. Crowell (3-2) beat Munday (2-2) 44-41 and Knox City (4-0) beat Benjamin (1-3) 50-39 in other District 16-A boys action. The Indians will travel to Knox City Tuesday with the district lead on the line.
On the girls side, Chillicothe topped Northside 47-32, while Benjamin and Crowell prevailed.
The Chillicothe Eagles were led in scoring by 15 from Belcher and 8 from Pulis.
