Johnnie Ruth White

Johnnie Ruth White passed away Jan.16, 2019. A time of fellowship and remembrance is scheduled from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, January 20, 2019 at Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers. Family and friends will gather to celebrate her life of 81 years at 2 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 21, 2019, at Lake Ridge Chapel. Johnnie Ruth was born on July 22, 1937 to John and Ruth Harper McCann in West Columbia, Texas. Johnnie married Dr. Travis White on December 23, 1958 in West Columbia, TX.   After short stints in El Paso and Birmingham, Alabama they settled in Vernon, Texas in 1967. Always a consonant mother and home maker, Johnnie Ruth was involved with kids and active in her church.  She was a Sunday school teacher and prayer group leader at home and at church.  She volunteered at the Wilbarger General Hospital’s WGH Auxiliary.  Travis and Johnnie Ruth spent several years working across the country all while home schooling Peter.  In Lubbock since 1994, Johnnie Ruth was active in the Lubbock Christian Woman’s Connection and Concerned Women for America.  Travis and Johnnie Ruth are members of Trinity Church and the Prime Timers.

Survivors include her husband, Travis Albert White; children, Travis Alan White and wife, Denise; Lisa Kay Hawes, Peter John White and wife, Chastity; grandchildren, Austin and Lydia White,  Laura Anne White, Kelly Wayne White, Taylor Anthony White, Syman MacKenzie White; nephews, William James McCann, John Timothy McCann, Mickey McCann, Phillip McCann, Troy  McCann; niece, Cindy Carol Cartwright; cousins, Patricia Patterson, Jo Lumpee, Milton Carleton; great-grandchildren Henry Clyde and Dotty White.

She was preceded in death by her father, John Harrel McCann; mother, Ruth Vera McCann; brother, William Robert McCann; half-brothers, Merideth McCann and Jack McCann.

The family of Johnnie Ruth White would appreciate contributions to be given to Trinity Church, Lubbock in her memory.

    Peter,. We’re so sorry to hear of your mother’s death. She was such a good neighbor here in Vernon. Butch & Rita Lee, James & Becky Lee we’re our children.
