Vernon Lions win two at tough ACS tournament
The Vernon Lion baseball team participated in the ACS Tournament here Friday and Saturday and coming home with victories over Jacksboro and Holliday but a loss to Godley.
The Lions defeated Jacksboro 12-0. Jacob Boatman was 2 for 2 at the plate with one RBI, Ashton Durham was 1-3 with three RBIs and Joseph Boone was 1-3 with two RBIs.
Landry Gonzales pitched for four innings giving up just two hits and recording three strikeouts.
Vernon was first on the scoreboard with three runs in the first inning and then eight more in the second inning and one in the third before the game was called after four innings.
The Lions went on to play the Holliday Eagles later on Friday and won 3-0.
Vernon started hot and got on the scoreboard with two runs in the top of the first inning. They added an insurance run in the fourth inning.
Marc Rodriguez was 1-3 at the plate with one RBI. Reeves pitched for five innings with one hit and nine strikeouts while Boatman pitched for one inning with two strikeouts.
On Saturday, the Lions played Godley but lost to the Wildcats 7-5 in a tough battle. Godley was first on the scoreboard with one run in the first inning followed by two in the third and four in the sixth, while Vernon scored one run in the fourth, two in the fifth and another two in the seventh.
Boatman was 1-4 with one RBI, Jace Smithson and Holley were both 1-3 with one RBI each. Gonzales pitched 3 innings with five hits and one strikeout. Boatman pitched 2.2 with three hits and one strikeout and Kreed Holley pitched a third of an inning with a strikeout on the only batter he faced.
