Lions sweep season series with Graham
Lions win in 9 innings
The Vernon Lions baseball team traveled to Graham Friday, April 5 to take on the Graham Steers and returned home with a 3-1 victory after nine innings.
Ashton Durham pitched seven innings giving up just three hits, one run while recording six strikeouts.
Durham also got the game winning hit. Durham hit a double, scoring Joseph Boone to break a 1-1 tie in the ninth inning.
Tyler Reeves pitched the final two innings for the win, giving up two hits, no runs and recordingtwo strikeouts.
Reeves also scored one run, had three hits and had a RBI on a double in the ninth inning, to score Wade Whatley.
Garrett Pierce had one hit and one RBI. One hit was record by Jacob Boatman; one run and two hits for Boone, two hits and one RBI for Durham, and one run for Whatley.

Vernon wins Tuesday, 4-2
The Lions turned around and played host to the Steers on Tuesday, claiming a 4-2 win.
Reeves got the sart and pitched a complete game, striking out five while allowing just five hits.
Jace Smithson’s two-out, 2-RBI single in the fourth put Vernon ahead 3-1. Landry Gonzalez added an RBI single in the sixth to make it 4-1.
Joseph Boone was also big at the plate, scoring twice for Vernon.
Graham scored once in the seventh, but could draw no closer.

Standings
The Lions are now 16-5 overall and 4-0 in district.
Standings from other district teams include Iowa Park, 19-2 and 4-0 in district, Graham, 16-9-2 and 4-2 in district, Burkburnett, 6-12 and 0-4 in district, and Hirschi 0-6 in district.
The Lions are set to battle Iowa Park on Friday

Vernon’s Tyler Reeves picked up two wins agaisnt Graham in the past week, coming on to win in relief Friday, and getting a complete game win on Tuesday.
