Vernon plans downtown trick-or-treating
Halloween will be celebrated downtown on October 31. The Vernon Main Street advisory board approved the event during Monday’s board meeting.
Vernon Main Street/Tourism Director Amanda Lehman presented the event, called Munchkins on Main, to celebrate Halloween on October 31 from 4 to 7 p.m.
Lehman said that the event will include downtown businesses handing out candy to trick-or-treaters and businesses, organizations and churches having trunk-or-treat locations downtown as well. Lehman shared that anyone interested in having a trunk-or-treat location can contact her at 940-552-2564 and the entry is $5.
There will also be a scarecrow contest for downtown businesses to participate in. They will have the decorated scarecrows where their flag poles are on the sidewalk.
People can also enter a pumpkin carving contest. In order to enter, individuals can drop their pumpkins off on the North side of the Courthouse by 4:30 p.m. on October 31. The Haunted House will be open for all to enjoy.
Children can enter a costume parade as well.
Lehman said she is working with TxDOT to try to close Main Street between Olive Street and Wilbarger; however, this closure has not been confirmed.
Board member Julie Brock made a motion to buy and sell hot dogs, chips and drinks for this event to raise some money to cover expenses for prizes to go towards the best Trunk-or-Treat location, best Scarecrow, best costumes and best Jack-o-lanterns. Board member Jamie Chapman seconded the motion. The vote was unanimous.
