Latest from Vernon ISD — no school Monday and Tuesday
In its latest update, Vernon ISD has canceled school for students on Monday March 23 and Tuesday March 24. Teachers will still report. The situation could change.
Superintendent Jeff Byrd said that the purpose will be to share the district’s plan with staff and to take input from everyone involved in making sure that the district can provide, instruction, assistance, and meals to students in the event that there is an extended closure.
Byrd said that as of right now the district is planning on following the district’s calendar starting Wednesday March 25.
“There is absolutely no decision that we can make that will appease everyone. In the event that you feel your child is in danger, you are concerned for their health, if they or anyone in your household has a compromised immune system, you are always more than welcome to keep them at home. The district will require that you call in so that we can code the absence accordingly. We have been informed that we will continue to receive funding for all students as long as we have coded their absence correctly. In the event that your child is sick or running a fever please keep them at home,” Byrd said.
Northside ISD is also out on Monday and Tuesday.
