Ray Strickland, 83 of Vernon, Texas died on Thursday, June 18, 2020, in Vernon, Texas.Funeral services were held Monday, June 22, 2020 at 11 a.m. at Calvary Baptist Church with Rev. Toby Castleberry officiating. Interment was held at Wilbarger Memorial Park under the direction of Sullivan Funeral Home.Jimmy was born Friday, Sept. 4, 1936 in Lubbock, Texas. He was the son of the late James Freeman Strickland and the late Florence Ivy Strickland. He married Peggy Thigpen on May 29, 1960 in Abilene, Texas. He was a graduate of Ropesville High School, Graduate of Hardin-Simmons English Master Sulross State and Library Masters at East Texas State Collage. He had been a resident of Vernon since 1989. He served in the US Army, Intelligence Corps in San Antonio. He was a Track & Field Judge worked track meets in Olympic trials in 1988. He retired as Librarian of Vernon College after 10 years of service. He was a member Retired Teachers Association. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, he served as a church deacon. Jimmy is survived by his wife Peggy Strickland of the home, two sons, Randy Strickland and wife Daylene of Edmond, OK and Jay Strickland and wife Angie of Cave City, AR, his daughter-in-law Lori Todmire Strickland of Canyon Lake, Texas, two sisters, Peggy Peel of Austin,Texas, and Ann Christopher of Lubbock, Texas; four grandchildren Trevor, Tyler, Jacob, Josh, one great-grandson, T.K.He was preceded in death by one son Terry Strickland; grandson Trenton Strickland; two brothers J.F.
