Lady Lions open basketball season with a win
The Vernon Lady Lions opened the 2020-21 basketball season on Saturday at Bellevue, winning 59-39 over the Lady Eagles.
The Lady Lions trailed 10-9 after one quarter, but ramped up the pressure, taking a 24-17 lead into half and led 42-27 after three quarters.
Shay Williams had 25 points, 12 rebounds and 4 steals for Vernon. She was 7 of 8 from the free throw line. Carli White added 15 points, 7 rebounds and 4 steals.
Addison Spencer was stellar on defense with 10 steals and 9 rebounds to go with 6 points. Macy Flowers filled up the stat book with 6 steals, 5 assists and 8 rebounds.
Vernon is scheduled to play at Anson on Friday with the home opener scheduled for Nov. 24, at 6.p.m. against Holliday, and then hosting Altus on Dec. 1 at 6 p.m.
