Lots of ways to give, express Christmas spirit
The Christmas spirit is evident in thinking of others.
The Salvation Army Red Kettle Campaign can been seen around town as an example. Volunteers are currently taking donations at various locations and will continue these efforts until Dec. 22.
The Kettles will be out on Mondays through Saturdays from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. Kettles are at United, and Walmart during the week and will also be at Yes Way on Saturdays only. Another sign of Christmas is the Star Tree which holds bright yellow stars bearing the Christmas wishes of local youngsters. The Stars Tree, located in the lobby of the Waggoner National Bank, holds close to 100, reflect the children who were registered in November for the annual program sponsored by the Vernon Jaycees. There are no names on the stars, only the wants and/or needs of youngsters who might not otherwise receive gifts this Christmas. Those coordinating the Star Trees try their best to keep the identities of the Star children private.
Those wishing to select one or more stars may go to the bank during regular hours. They are asked to enter the back door of the bank and wear a mask. Guidelines for the Star Tree include:
–The information pertaining to the greatest wants or needs is just a guideline. You are not obligated to purchase any particular item or all of the items listed. The Star contains the child’s age, gender and various other relevant information to help in gift selection.
–One Star or several Stars may be selected.
–Please spend at least $50 per Star.
–You may purchase one gift or several gifts per Star.
–Please bundle your wrapped or unwrapped packages in a white trash bag with the Star inside the bag-one bag per Star. Also, write the Star number on the outside of the bag.
–Please return the Star (s) in five days or less to the bank by Friday, Dec. 11, 2020 by 3 p.m.
Parents are asked to pick up the gifts for their children at the Boys & Girls Club between 2 p.m. and 3:30 p.m., on Sunday, Dec. 13.
