Pedestrian killed on 287
The Vernon Police Department reported that on Monday, December 28, 2020, at around 12:16 a.m, emergency dispatch received a 911 call reporting a “pedestrian vs. vehicle” accident on northbound U.S 287 near the Bentley Street exit. Officers responded and found a male subject who had been struck by a semi-truck trailer laying on the highway. The pedestrian had extensive injuries.
The Wilbarger County Justice of the Peace was notified and responded to the accident scene and pronounced the individual deceased. Preliminary investigation shows the semi-truck was northbound on 287 crossing the Bentley overpass, as the pedestrian was walking southbound in the northbound lane of traffic.
The victim has been identified as Mitchell Lee Foster of Vernon. The driver of the tractor-trailer was uninjured and identified as Figueroa German, of Florida.
This case is still under investigation by the Vernon Police Department. The location was also the scene of a semi vs. pedestrian accident on June 15, 2018, in a which a 21-year-old Vernon man was killed.
