Seven Vernon wrestlers advance to 5A Regional Meet
Vernon High School competed in the 10-team District 4-5A Championships last weekend in Lubbock. The boys had three district silver medalists and qualified four for Region and finished 8th overall. The Lady Lions had two runners-up, and qualified three for region as they took 7th place overall.
Regional Qualifiers and Alternates will travel to El Paso this week.

Boys
— Jayden Robledo went 2 and 1 and earned 2nd place at 132 lb. – REGIONAL QUALIFIER
— Sebastian Ortega went 3 and 1 and took 2nd place at 126 lb. – REGIONAL QUALIFIER
— Kian Garcia went 2 and 1 and earned 2nd place at 285 lb. – REGIONAL QUALIFIER
— Jaden Martinez went 4 and 1 and claimed 3rd place at 120 lb. – REGIONAL QUALIFIER
— Ash Lay went 3 and 3 and was 5th place at 145 lb. – REGIONAL ALTERNATE
— Israel Espinoza went 2 and 3 and was 5th place at 113 lb. – REGIONAL ALTERNATE
— Greg Newton went 4 and 3 and was 5th place at 160 lb. – REGIONAL ALTERNATE
— Mason Brothers 6th place at 170 lb.
— Christian Martinez 8th place at 152 lb.
Girls
— Juanita Salazar went 2 and 1 and placed 2nd at 95 – REGIONAL QUALIFIER
— Melanie Villeda went 2 and 1 and took 2nd place at 119 – REGIONAL QUALIFIER
— Kellan Byars went 3 and 1 and claimed 3rd place at 148 – REGIONAL QUALIFIER
— Jairy Vasquez claimed 6th place at 128
