Vernon 49, City View 43

The Vernon Lions fought back from a 24-19 deficit to beat City View 49-43 on Friday. Vernon is ranked No. 21 and City View No. 22 in this week’s state 3A poll. The Lions are 3-0 in District 7-3A heading into Friday’s match-up at Bowie, and then at 3A No. 10 Holliday next Tuesday.
Against City View, Kell Castleberry hit a three-pointer to start the third quarter, then drilled a second trey to put Vernon ahead 25-24. Castleberry’s third three of the third quarter put the Lions ahead 32-25.
The Lions kept up the pressure from deep, with Kameron Plyler’s three-point bomb in the fourth quarter giving Vernon a 37-32 advantage, and Adarius Williams’ late three, providing the final score of 49-43.
Williams filled the stat book with 16 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists, and 3 steals. Castleberry drained three three-pointers on his way to 13 points, 8 rebounds and three blocks. Julius Dawkins scored 10 points.
