Vernon tennis jumps to front of district standings

The Vernon Lions dispatched the Iowa Hawks 15-4 on Sept. 10 in the district opener for team tennis.
The Lions jumped out fast in doubles, getting a sweep in boys action with Nevin Schur/Jonathan Medina and Will Castleberry/ Hunter Boatman each claiming 8-0 wins at No. 1 and 2 and Atticus Mixson/Sanders winning 8-3 at No. 3.
Lily Beam/Truett Schur picked up an 8-2 win in mixed doubles. Claire Mayo/Courtney Saylor led off the girls doubles with an 8-5 win at No.1.
The tennis team is scheduled to host All Saints on Saturday at 9:30 a.m.
