Unofficial Wilbarger County Nov. 4 Election Results
All 17 proposed constitutional amendments on the Nov. 4 ballot passed, according to unofficial results reported Wednesday morning. Unofficial results for Wilbarger County mirrored state-wide results.
Less than 10 percent of Wilbarger County’s registered voters turned out to cast a ballot in Tuesday’s election for 17 constitutional amendments. Of the 8,149 registered voters in Wilbarger County, 760 cast ballots.
On the ballot were 17 propositions for amending the Texas Constitution.
Proposition 1 proposed an amendment for creating an endowment for the Texas State Technical College Program to fix campus infrastructure, upgrade classroom equipment and expand its footprint across the state. In Wilbarger County 559 voted in favor and 186 voted against.
Proposition 2 proposed an amendment for banning the state from taxing people or businesses on profits or potential profits from capital assets such as investments, real estate, valuable items and certain personal property. In Wilbarger County 627 voted in favor and 123 voted against.
Proposition 3 proposed an amendment for requiring judges to deny bail for individuals accused of committing specific felonies, such as murder, aggravated assault and indecency with a child. In Wilbarger County 567 voted in favor and 171 voted against.
Proposition 4 proposed an amendment for allocating up to $1 billion of sales tax revenue into the Texas Water Fund each year starting in 2027. This would be used to fix infrastructure, develop new water sources and support conservation efforts to help meet the state’s increasing water demands. In Wilbarger County 587 voted in favor and 160 voted against.
Proposition 5 proposed an amendment for extending tax exemptions on animal feed when it’s held as inventory to be sold. In Wilbarger County 593 voted in favor and 141 voted against.
Proposition 6 proposed an amendment for prohibiting the state from creating new taxes on securities transactions, such as stock trading, and from taxing those who operate or work in the securities market, including financial institutions, brokers and dealers. In Wilbarger County 505 voted in favor and 221 voted against.
Proposition 7 proposed an amendment for providing property tax breaks on homes of spouses of U.S. veterans who died in connection to their service. This applies if they have not remarried. Wilbarger County voters cast 681 votes for and 59 against.
Proposition 8 proposed an amendment for prohibiting the state from imposing inheritance taxes, which are taxes on an estate, and from taxing an estate or inheritances when they are transferred. In In Wilbarger County 652 voted in favor and 92 voted against.
Proposition 9 proposed an amendment for providing exemptions of up to $125,000 on businesses’ inventory or equipment from being taxed by school districts, cities, counties or any other taxing entity. In Wilbarger County 592 voted in favor and 142 voted against.
Proposition 10 proposed an amendment for creating a process that would temporarily lower property taxes on homes destroyed by fire. In Wilbarger County 695 voted in favor and 47 voted against.
Proposition 11 proposed an amendment for allowing the state to raise the homestead exemption, which is the amount of a home’s value that cannot be taxed to pay for public schools, for elderly or disabled Texans. In Wilbarger County 649 voted in favor and 100 voted against.
Proposition 12 proposed an amendment for changing the make-up and review process for the Texas’ State Commission on Judicial Conduct. In Wilbarger County 594 voted in favor and 131 voted against.
Proposition 13 proposed an amendment for increasing the homestead exemption, which is the amount of a home’s value that cannot be taxed to pay for public schools, for all homeowners. In Wilbarger County 657 voted in favor and 96 voted against.
Proposition 14 proposed an amendment for providing $3 billion to create the Dementia Prevention and Research Institute of Texas to study dementia, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s disease and other brain related conditions. In Wilbarger County 543 voted in favor and 192 voted against.
Proposition 15 proposed an amendment for Adding language on parental rights, as currently outlined in federal case law, to the Texas Constitution. In Wilbarger County 653 voted in favor and 90 voted against.
Proposition 16 proposed an amendment for adding language to the Texas Constitution clarifying that a person who is not a U.S. citizen cannot vote in the state. In Wilbarger County 680 voted in favor and 71 voted against.
Proposition 17 proposed an amendment for allowing the state to prevent property values near the border from increasing due to border security infrastructure and related improvements. In Wilbarger County 602 voted in favor and 134 voted against.
