Vernon commissioners to consider Orbison Park cell tower, zoning change
The Vernon City Commission will consider proposals involving a cell tower at Orbison Park, a zoning change for recreational vehicle storage and revisions to the city’s dangerous animal ordinance during its Tuesday, July 21, meeting.
The commission will meet at 5:30 p.m. at Vernon City Hall, 1725 Wilbarger St. The meeting also will be streamed through Facebook Live.
Commissioners are scheduled to hold a public hearing on a zoning request from L&B. Following the hearing, they could act on Ordinance 1871, which would change the property’s designation for Lots 14, 15, 24 and 25 Block 1 of the JH Wiell Addition to the City of Vernon known as 4933 Wilbarger from General Residential (RG) to Convenience Commercial (CC) for storage units and possible overflow from an approved RV park.
Commissioners also will discuss and consider possible action on a cell tower proposal at Orbison Park. A separate agenda item calls for consideration of lighting at the park through American Electric Power.
Another proposed ordinance would revise Vernon’s regulations concerning dangerous animals.
The commission will consider requests connected to Summers Last Blast, including a proposal from Cash Induction Racing to hold a burnout contest.
The Vernon Chamber of Commerce and Herring Bank are requesting that Fannin Street be closed from Texas Street to Pease Street from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Aug. 7 for the Summers Last Blast Chrome Classic Truck Show.
Other business includes consideration of an agreement involving the Vernon Business Development Corp. and Ordinance 1873, which would amend the city’s fiscal year 2025-26 budget.
Commissioners also are expected to receive a report from the Business Development Corp. and an update on the Wilbarger County Hazard Mitigation Plan. Quinton Hall is scheduled to be recognized during the meeting.
Residents who wish to speak during public comment must complete a form and give it to the city secretary before the meeting begins. Questions or comments also may be submitted before the meeting by emailing citysec@vernontx.gov or calling 940-552-2581.
