Vernon forecast: Extreme heat continues before slight weekend relief

Dangerous heat will continue across Vernon through Friday before temperatures ease slightly Saturday, according to the National Weather Service in Norman, Oklahoma.

Thursday, July 30, will be sunny and hot with a high near 106 degrees. Heat-index values could reach 109 degrees, with south winds of 6 to 10 mph. A heat advisory will be in effect from noon until 9 p.m. Thursday. Thursday night will be mostly clear with a low near 79. South winds could gust as high as 20 mph.

Little change is expected Friday, July 31. The day will be mostly sunny and hot with a high near 106 and a heat index as high as 109. Southwest winds will range from 7 to 11 mph.

A weak front could bring a slight chance of rain Friday night. The weather service forecasts a 20% chance of showers and thunderstorms before 1 a.m. Skies will otherwise be partly cloudy, with a low near 76 and north-northeast winds of 5 to 8 mph.

Saturday, Aug. 1, will remain hot but noticeably cooler than Thursday and Friday. Sunny skies are forecast with a high near 99. Saturday night will be clear with a low around 71.
