Guardrail repairs delayed on College Drive, barriers to be lowered

Guardrail construction along College Drive has been temporarily halted due to a lack of materials. The Texas Department of Transportation is also planning to reduce the height of the barriers.
The Vernon Record contacted TxDOT in connection to concerns that the barriers have been constructed too high to see oncoming traffic at the intersections. TxDOT did not address the rumor of a potential lawsuit being filed, stemming from an accident where the barriers have been completed. A fatality accident also occurred where the barriers have been installed last week. The cause of the accident is still under of investigation.
Adèle Lewis, Public Information Officer with the Texas Department of Transportation stated, “the construction on the guard rails along College Drive had been temporarily suspended due to the construction crew waiting on materials and equipment necessary to complete the construction.”
Lewis went on to say, “we could expect construction to restart about Sept. 28.”
Lewis also addressed the height of the concrete barriers stating that when construction restarted those barriers would be reduced in height to the same height as the metal guard rails already installed along College Drive.

A fatality accident occurred on Sept. 12 in the work zone on College Drive.
