James Russell Schmoker

James Russell Schmoker, 85 of Vernon, Texas passed
away on Monday, Oct. 21, 2024, in Vernon, Texas.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m.,Thursday, Oct.
24, 2024, at Second Baptist Church with James’s nephew,
Clay Schmoker officiating. Burial will follow at the
Chillicothe Cemetery in Chillicothe, TX. under the
direction of Sullivan Funeral Home.
James was born Thursday, Feb. 18, 1939, in Vernon,
Texas. He was the son of the late Fred Schmoker and the
late Clara Ramsey Schmoker. James married Jerry Lou
Lynn on Feb. 18, 1968, in Vernon, Texas. James served in
the U.S. Army and Texas National Guard in the 49th
Armored Division -Artillery. James was a self-employed brick layer and rock
mason and a farmer. James and Jerry Lou fostered over twenty children in their
home from 1984-2000. James was very active in the Holiday Spirt Meal; he was
the designated dishwasher and floor mopper. James was honored as the 2009
Outstanding Citizen of Wilbarger County. James always had a large family and
friends gathering at his home for Christmas and Easter and he loved to grow okra.
James is survived by his wife of the home, Jerry Lou Schmoker, two daughters,
Crystal Schmoker of Vernon, TX and Paula Ryal of Wichita Falls, TX, One sister,
Myrtle June West of Geronimo, OK., two grandchildren Miranda and Misty
Garcia and one great grandchild Elayna Garcia.
James is proceeded in death by his parents Fred and Clara Schmoker, his
brothers, Ernest, Henry, Fred, Jr. and Robert Schmoker and one sister Mary Ella
Bradley.
Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2024, at
Sullivan Funeral Home.
