Are local elections secure? County contracts to find out

The Wilbarger County Commissioners okayed having a security firm review the county’s election process. The action came in Monday’s commission meeting.
County Clerk Jana Kennon told the commission that there is $24 million in grant money available to Texas counties for purchasing new voting machinery. But the only way to qualify for the grant is to agree to have the security audit performed by AT&T.
She said there would be no cost to the county, unless AT&T finds an issue. She said they will check for malware on election computers, review the entire ballot process. If there is an issue, then they will charge the county.
