Parade features 40 entries

There were 40 entries in the 13th annual Christmas on the Western Trail lighted parade, held Saturday night in downtown Vernon. The parade had been delayed one week due to winter weather. That delay helped usher in perfect weather for the holiday festivities downtown all day on Saturday.
The first place float went to Wilbarger Street Church of Christ with Templo Ebenezer coming in second.
First place lighted vehicle went to Wayne and Juanita Enloe with Scott and Elizabeth Von Tungelen second.
First place golf cart/ATV was Scott Freeling and family, with Cathy Smith second. Herman Maddox took first in the miscellaneous category.
There were festivities all day around the courthouse and downtown, including opportunities to meet Santa, ride a fire truck, motorcycle or horse.
The Downtown Christmas Parade Stocking winner were Alex Arteaga (boy) and Leah Delagarza (girl). Delagarza also won the Christmas Parade Elf Hunt.
The Main Street District Wassail gift card winners were Pam Gosline, Angie Miller and Faye Standridge.
