Salvation Army volunteers recognized at reception
Volunteer groups and individuals who participated in the 2018 campaign were honored on Sunday as the Vernon Salvation Army hosted a reception in Wesley Hall of the First United Methodist Church.
Nancy Ritchey of the local unit announced that 485 total hours were donated during the 2018 campaign with $23,340.47 collected.
She thanked each one who participated and presented plaques to those who donated hours ringing bells for the Red Kettle campaign. These included: First United Methodist Church, 72 hours; Vernon High School Tennis Team, 42 hours; Vernon High School Key Club, 42 hours; Vernon Middle School National Junior Honor Society, 40 hours; Wood Street Baptist Church, 36 hours; Vernon College Students and Staff, 28 hours; Red River Leos, 20 hours; Boys and Girls Club, 18 hours; Wilbarger General Hospital, 15 hours; Camp Fire, 10 hours; Vernon Travelers, 8 hours.
Recognized as individuals donating the most hours were Brittany Stewart and Clay Scott, 38 hours.
Receiving certificates for their service to the Salvation Army were Senior Ringers, Sharon Browning, Jean Clark, Zora Lee, Mildred Spear, John and Missy Stone, Charles and Joyce Ashley.
Other volunteers and supporters recognized were Angel Care Home Health, Boy Scout Troop 130, Cornerstone Home School, Herring Bank Employees, Kindred Home Health, Leaps and Bounds, Main Street Grill, Red Hats Vernon Vivacious Violets, Second Baptist Church, Templo Fuente de Vida, Vernon Auto Group Employees, Vernon High School National Honor Society, Vernon High School PALS, Waggoner National Bank Employees.
Ritchey noted that the 2019 Red Kettle Campaign will begin on Nov. 9. The Salvation Army board will ring bells from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., at Wal-Mart and will also conducted a Toy Drive on that day.
Kettles will be set up at Yes Way and United beginning Saturday, Nov. 23. Beginning Dec. 2, Kettles will be set up at Wal-Mart. December 21 will beethe last day for all Kettles.
A new requirement for ringers this year is that students must have a parent permission slip prior to ringing.
