City commission approves street projects

During a regular business meeting on Tuesday, April 28, 2019, the Vernon City Commission approved a bid from Freeman
Construction in the amount of $379,970 for street seal coating and street repair work.

Commissioner Justin Marsh voted against the item, citing concerns that the city’s  budget later this summer may be taxed due to coronavirus impact. He said the project could still move forward if his concerns were unwarranted.
Several commissioners noted that routine street work had been delayed several years during the budget crisis, auditor Mike Edgin had alluded
to earlier in the meeting (see print edition for Edgin’s audit report). The commissioners said the street work should go forward as budgeted and it was approved 3-1 on a motion from commissioner Pam Gosline.

Public Works Director Darell Kennon presented two plans for street work planned for this summer. The main difference was that Option A would spend the majority of the funding on redoing Paradise Street from Main to Sand RoadB. However the commission chose Option B.
