Vernon Holiday Spirit Meal served a total of 920 Christmas dinners on Friday, according to Sharon Goins, co-cordinator with her husband, Billy, for the annual event.
Goins said the number represented 679 meals delivered and 231 that were picked up at the auditorium. Although the number of volunteers was lower than in previous years, Goins said everything with smoothly and there was even food left over.
“We had plenty of food and could have even fed more,” Sharon Goins said.
She said some leftovers were taken to the Wilbarger County Jail and to the House of Hope on Hwy. 70.
Goins thanked all who helped with the event and those who donated. Donations can still be made to the Holiday Spirit Meals program at the Waggoner Bank.
