Three contested races set

The filing period for local elections ended on Friday with three contested races set.

At the Vernon city commission, Place 4 incumbent Britt Ferguson is seeking re-election, but he is being challenged by Dustin Fraticelli for the two-year term on the commission.
Don Aydelott, the incumbent for City Commission Place 3, filed for re-election and has no challenger for the two-year term.
The Wilbarger General Hospital board of directors also has one contested race. Place 5 incumbent Melanie Milner filed for re-election. She is challenged
by Kathy Craighead, who also filed for the Place 5 seat. Place 4 incumbent Jim Riggins filed for re-election and faces no opposition.
There is one contested races for the two seats on the Vernon ISD school board. Incumbent Emory Byers filed for re-election for Place 1 and is unopposed.
However, there will be a newcomer at Place 2. Incumbent Mike Boyd declined to seek reelection.
Allen Overby and Patrick Parmer filed for Place 2.
The election is scheduled for May 1, 2021.
