Prison sentence in bail jumping case

Both prison and probation sentences were handed down during recent proceedings
in the 46th Judicial District Court of Wilbarger County.
Christopher McManus, 39, of Vernon, was sentenced to eight years in prison on two separate charges from 2016.
On January 16, 2016, a Vernon police officer attempted a traffic stop on McManus
at around 2:30 in the morning. McManus failed to stop and sped away from the officer, eventually turning onto Wilbarger Street and driving on the wrong side of the road before pulling
up in front of his house and fleeing on foot. He was apprehended after a brief foot pursuit.
On April 19, 2016, McManus failed to appear in court pursuant to the terms of his bail bond and a warrant was issued for his arrest for bail jumping. He was later apprehended in South Carolina with the assistance of the US Marshals.
The eight year sentence for evading arrest with a motor vehicle and for bail jumping will run concurrently. McManus
was represented by Augustus Corbett and Chloe Corbett of Dallas.
