Pinwheels, contest bring awareness

 

Wilbarger County Child  Welfare Board along with representatives from the local Child Welfare Agency and the 2INgage Organization gathered at Wilbarger County Courthouse this past week to bring awareness to child abuse in Texas and Wilbarger County.

The group placed 251 pinwheels around the square to represent the number ofTexas children who lost their lives to child abuse in 2020. They also displayed 53 teddy bears representing the children in Wilbarger County who were victims of child abuse last year.

Also this month, the Child Welfare Board held a coloring contest with the theme: “What I Like to Do with My Family.” First place received $25 Walmart gift card; second place received $10 Walmart gift card, and winning teachers received $25.

Winners were:

Harrold ISD: Hazel Wilkinson, first place;  Jeremiah Rose, second; Mrs. Frank, winning teacher

Northside ISD: Tynslie Payne, first; Emily Martinez, second;  Mrs. Quinones, winning teacher.

Shive: Lisa Garcia, first; Jazlynn Albineda, second; Mrs. Aguilar, winning teacher.

Central: Roberto Martin,  first place; Norah Schwart, second; Mrs. Sandoval winning teacher.
