Man arrested in killing of horses

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol arrested Trenton Ray Wilson, 32, on two felony warrants outside of Woodward, Oklahoma on Highway 34, at around 7:45 a.m. last Tuesday, August 2.

Wilson was booked into the Wilbarger County Jail on Aug. 5 on two felony charges — burglary of a habitation and  criminal mischief with a firearm/death of livestock.

Wilson was reportedly found with the help of concerned citizens and The Texas & Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association.

On July 22, Wilson allegedly took a shotgun from a property north of Vernon, off of 287 near the rest stop, close to the Pease River. He then went around the 20-acre property shooting the weapon numerous times, according to incident reports.

Wilson is accused of shooting at multiple cattle, dogs, and two horses. The horses were shot multiple times. One horse died at the scene from injuries, and the other was euthanized.

Texas & Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association also received assistance from the Vernon Police Department in identifying a suspect.
