Helen Parker

Helen Parker, 87, of Quanah, passed away early Tuesday morning, August 17, 2021. A funeral service is planned for 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 21st at the Church of Christ in Quanah with interment to follow at Quanah Memorial Park. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Friday evening, August 20th, at Smith Funeral Home.Helen Faye Wilkins was born August 7, 1934 in Quanah, Texas to the late Egbert Wilkins and Dula Estell Braziel Wilkins. She was a lifetime resident of Quanah and graduated from Quanah High School at the age of 16. She married Bill D. Parker on February 12, 1955 in Gould, Oklahoma. They were married 61 years. Helen worked as an operator for the telephone company before operating an insurance business. However, she worked in savings and loan banking for 45 years. Helen fi nally retired in 2011 after being called back to work from an earlier retirement. She was a member of the Church of Christ and taught Ladies Bible Class. Helen was the 1997 Distinguished Service Award winner with the American Cancer Society. She was the Treasurer of the Quanah Alumni Association since it’s founding; a member of the 1904 Study Club; and Tuesday Ladies Social at 1.Survivors include a son, Randel Parker, and wife Jan of Quanah; 5 granddaughters: Valerie Brook Wright, and husband Chris, Vanessa Bren Willden, and husband Travis, Victoria Beth Parker, Cassi Luttrell, and husband Kris, and Lindsay Byars, and husband Matt; and 11 great grandchildren.Bill preceded her in death in 2016. She was also preceded by 2 brothers and 2 sisters.The family suggests that memorials be made to the Quanah Alumni Association, P.O. Box 13, Quanah, Texas 79252.
