Hobart Frank “Hobie” McManigal, Jr., 74 of Vernon, Texas died on Thursday, Sept. 2, 2021, in Vernon, Texas.Private Family Service Hobie was born Thursday, Oct. 24, 1946 in Happy, Texas. He was the son of the late Hobart Frank McManigal, Sr., and the late Anna Mae McClure McManigal. He married Dixie McGehee on Jan. 24, 1970 in Happy, Texas. He was a graduate of Happy High School and received his Master’s Degree at West Texas State University. He was a member of the Hall of Fame at Northern Junior College Athletic Association. He moved to Vernon in 1975 and he retired after 37 years as Athletic Director at Vernon College. He served in the National Guard. Hobie is survived by his wife Dixie of the home; three children; Kimberly Cox and husband Mike of Lubbock, TX, Kay Wagner and husband David of Pearland, TX and Lisa Alexander and husband Tyson of Abilene, TX.; brother-in-law M.L. McGehee of Amarillo, Texas; fi ve grandchildren Madelyn Cox, Halle Cox, Bella Alexander, Sam Hobie Alexander and Jase Alexander; two step grandchildren Sydney Wagner and Cody Wagner. Hobie was my long time friend ! He was more than a friend . He was my teacher and mentor ! He was my tennis doubles partner , my team mate in basketball, softball and volleyball ! Hobie taught me life skills that changed my outlook on many things !I My most treasured gift from Hobie was his love for the great outdoors ! He taught me how to fish , hunt and an awareness of nature and all the birds and creators that live there ! Thanks Hobie for be the big brother I never had ! Go rest high on that mountain that you made me love for so many years !
