Texoma Gives to benefit 4 Vernon non-profits
Four Vernon non-profit organizations will be among those in the Texoma area that will be a part of the sixth annual Texoma Gives take place on Thursday, Sept. 9 as a 16-hour online giving day event shines a spotlight on over 200 nonprofit organizations in North Texas and Southwest Oklahoma.
The four organizations from Wilbarger County are Boys & Girls of Vernon, Texoma Alliance to Stop Abuse, Wilbarger Humane Society and the Red River Valley Museum.
The Wichita Falls Area Community Foundation hosts the event for area nonprofits to help them raise much needed funding to support their missions. According to Leslie Schaffner, Wichita Falls Area Community Foundation President, “When people work together to collectively support the important work happening in their community nonprofits, it benefits the entire region. We’re stronger when we work together for a shared goal of improving our communities and the lives of the people who live there.”
Anyone in the world may donate to their favorite charities by visiting www.texomagives.org. Thousands of dollars in prize money are on the line throughout the day to incentivize giving. The actual event is from 6 a.m. until 10 p.m. on Sept. 9.
Since the first Texoma Gives day of giving in 2016, the event has raised over $5.5 million dollars for regional nonprofit organizations. The Foundation provides the infrastructure and platform for the participants to share information about their organizations, tell their stories, and define their needs. Each organization is then responsible for reaching out to existing donors and cultivating new ones who have an interest in their work.
Visitors to the texomagives.org website can search for organizations by name, by location, or even by cause. Donations are made directly to the organization by credit card. The minimum donation amount is $10.
