Ruth Sanders

Ruth Sanders of Vernon, Texas, passed away Sept. 13, 2021 after a lengthy battle with cancer then contracted Covid. She was born March 5, 1943 in Grand Saline, Texas to Paul and Gladys Shadwick and she was the youngest of four kids. After retiring from North Texas State Hospital, she enjoyed spending time with her pets and working in her garden, but what she really loved to do is her arts and crafts projects. She had a booth at Blessings and Something More where she spent most of her time pestering her buddy Anna “Buzzy” Hawkins. Ruth stayed busier than most people half her age, even getting sick didn’t slow her down much. She was finishing and starting new projects the day before she was hospitalized. Ruth was a tough and a fighter she fought until the very end. She beat breast cancer, hospitalized several times with pneumonia, diagnosed with lung cancer and never let it get her down, she also contracted Covid and beat it but it made her so weak that the pneumonia was too much. She is loved and will be missed by everyone that knew her. Ruth is survived by her son Rodney “Zeke” Sanders and several nieces and nephews.Ruth is preceded in death by her husband of 55 years William Frank Sanders, a daughter Jennifer Sanders, two sisters Billie Hickson, Bobbie Owens and a brother Charlie Shadwick.
