County judge snatches gun away from courthouse assailant

Wilbarger County Judge Greg Tyra was uninjured after a woman pulled a gun and threatened him earlier this week.
Lisa Kemp was booked into the Wilbarger County Jail on a charge of aggravated assault on a public servant following the incident, which occurred Monday afternoon.
Judge Tyra said he had left the courthouse to run an errand, and as he returned, he noticed a woman sitting on the courthouse steps.
“I said ‘Hi,’” Judge Tyra said. “She asked if I was a judge and I said, ‘yes ma’am’.”
The woman then stood and drew a pistol out of her jacket.
Judge Tyra said he didn’t have time to think, he just reacted.
“I just reached out, grabbed it and snatched it away from her,” he said. “Thank God everything happened okay.”

The woman was taken into custody and transported to the county jail on the felony charge. Judge Tyra said that due to the incident occurring at the courthouse, it also had to be reported to the state.
