Lots of Halloween fun this weekend

Sunday, Oct. 31, is the official day of Halloween but activities in Vernon are not confined to just one day this year as the week preceding the spooky holiday is also filled with a number of activities  with the fun concluding on Halloween with the Munchkins on Main Street Celebration and the Second Baptist Church’s  Trunk or Treat.

The third annual Munchkins on Main Celebration will be held on Halloween, Sunday, Oct. 31, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Participating Main Street District businesses will hand out candy from their doorsteps, and businesses and individuals from throughout the community will distribute candy from their decorated trunks.

The trunks will line Main Street between Wilbarger and Olive Street.  The trunks will be judged by three anonymous judges and first through third place will receive a trophy.

Anyone who would like to have a decorated trunk in the event, may call 940-552-2564 ext. 301 to reserve a space. In addition to trick-or-treating, Elite Sports Academy will put on a special performance, picture can be made at the photo booth and the little munchkins can finish off the event walking in the costume parade.

For those not ready to end the night with the Munchkins Parade, they can head over to Nightmare on Main Street for one of their two haunts or Vernon Plaza Theater for a Halloween movie.

The Second Baptist Church will also have its annual Trunk or Treat on Sunday as well. The event will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. with two bounce houses, hayrides, free hot dogs and popcorn.

The church will have a drive through Trunk or Treat if the weather is bad.

A number of activities will start off the Halloween weekend. Among these are:

–Western Trail Cowboy Church, 13406 US Hwy, 70S, will hold a Fall Festival beginning at 5 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 30. There will be hayrides, hot dogs and drinks, Trunk or Treats and games. Costumes are welcome. A special finale will conclude the fun.

–Faith United Methodist Church will hold a Trunk for Treats on Saturday, Oct. 30, beginning at 5:30 p.m. on the north parking lot. There will be plenty of candy as well as free hot dogs.

–Lakeview Church, 2130 Stadium Drive, will host a Trunk-n-Treat from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 30.  There will be games, candy and food. There will also be drawings for $500 worth of gift cards.

–Second Baptist Church Trunk or Treat on Sunday, Oct. 31. The event will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. with two bounce houses, hay rides, free hot dogs and popcorn. The church will have a drive through Trunk or Treat if the weather is bad.

–Vernon Main Street District will hold its third annual Munchkins on Main Celebration on Halloween, Sunday, Oct. 31, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
