Friday is last day to request holiday meal

Meal requests for the Thanksgiving Holiday Spirit Meal currently total 234 delivered meals, Sharon Goins, coordinator of the program along with her husband, Billy Goins, reported on Tuesday as preparations continue for the annual event.
Goins said more delivery requests are expected.
“We will receive the lists from Meals on Wheels on Friday, Nov. 19,” she said. “We will continue to take delivered meal requests until 8 p.m., Friday, Nov. 19. If you do not get your request in by then, you will need to come to the auditorium
on Thanksgiving Day from 12 noon to 1:30 p.m. and pickup your meals.”
Goins noted that turkeys have been picked up from United Supermarket, Vernon and South Main Allsup’s. She said Tosha Winship had donated 90 loaves of bread that will be used to make the dressing for Thanksgiving.
“Gayle Boyd’s, Horizon Group, are set to shred the bread on Wednesday, Nov. 17. On Thursday, Nov. 18, we will pick up the 300 pounds of ham donated by Tyson Foods, Inc. and a case of eggs donated by Cal-Maine Foods, Inc.”
On Saturday, Nov. 20, Billy and crew will fire up the grill and cook 300 pounds of turkeys while, Sharon
and her mom, Patsy McCarty, will make 80 pounds of cornbread for the dressing.
“On Sunday, Nov. 21 at 1 p.m., we will debone the turkeys. If anyone would like to help with this, please call (940) 414-0401 as we could use a few extra hands with this.” Goins said.
On Wednesday, Nov. 24, beginning at 9 a.m. the group will have Prep Day.
