Early voting begins Monday
Early voting for Texas state and county elections will begin Feb. 14 at the Wilbarger Auditorium from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. It runs through Feb. 25 for the March 1 election. The last day to apply for a ballot by mail is Feb. 18.
There are seven statewide seats on the ballot: governor, lieutenant governor, attorney general, land commissioner, agriculture commissioner, comptroller and one seat on the railroad commission. Winners in the Republican and Democratic primaries will face off in the Nov. 8 general election.
GOP incumbent Gov. Greg Abbott faces seven primary opponents, while five candidates are vying for the Democratic nomination, with the best-known being Beto O’ Rourke, a former candidate for U.S. Senate and the presidency.
There are four contested races in Wilbarger County on the republican ballot. In the only county-wide race, Angie Boyd and Amber Lagunas Cobb are facing off for Wilbarger County Treasurer.
There are two races for Justice of the Peace, Sharon Goins is challenging incumbent Gene Morton in precinct 1 and Clint Nava faces Bill Humphrey in the open precinct 2 race.
County commissioner Josh Patterson is challenged by Jerry Pennartz in precinct 2.
