Vehicle fleeing cops was flipped by guide wire
In a recent District Court case in Wilbarger County, Willard Damont Bell Wilson, 50, of Vernon, was sentenced to seven years in prison for evading arrest with a motor vehicle.
On July 2, 2020, a Vernon police officer saw Bell Wilson driving an SUV and he was aware of an outstanding warrant for his arrest. The officer attempted to initiate a traffic stop and Bell Wilson began to flee. A high-speed chase ensued on residential streets in Vernon that ended when Bell Wilson’s vehicle lost control, struck a guideline wire and turned upside down.
Bell-Wilson attempted to flee on foot but was apprehended by officers a short distance from the vehicle. Bell has previous felony convictions for possession of a controlled substance. He was represented by Dustin Nimz of Wichita Falls.
