Two killed in Foard County plane crash

Two people were killed Thursday morning when their airplane crashed near Crowell, according to Texas DPS.

The crash happened at around 9:40 a.m. near County Road 411 and County Road 415, approximately two miles northwest of Crowell. Authorities say the plane caught fire upon impact and burned.

DPS says it was a small aircraft, a Kitfox Series 7.

Ronny Baize, Crowell businessman and former candidate for Foard County Judge, died in Thursday’s plane crash, along with his 35-year-old nephew Zane Baize of Kissimmee, Florida.

Zane and other family members had flown in from Florida to attend the wedding of Ronny’s son, which was going to be held on Sunday.

The Federal Aviation Administration said Friday that the plane was flying at a low altitude when a gust of wind forced it to the ground, where it caught fire.
