Baca sentenced in aggravated assault case

Ermongenes Timmie Baca, Jr., 28, of Vernon, was sentenced to 20 years in prison following his plea of guilty to aggravated assault with a deadly weapon involving family violence. The sentence was handed down by District Judge Dan Mike Bird during recent proceedings of the 46th Judicial District Court in Vernon.

The victim of the crime reported that on August 22, 2021, she and her boyfriend, Baca, were driving in his car when they got into an argument. Baca stopped the car and began hitting the victim with his fists over and over.
The victim eventually lost consciousness and when she awoke she was in their apartment. Inside the apartment, Baca continued to beat the victim on her face and body. She again lost consciousness. Several hours later the victim was able to escape the apartment and get in her vehicle.
She drove to Abilene where she has relatives and made a report to the Abilene Police Department. The report was referred back to the Wilbarger County Sheriff’s Office who completed the final investigation. Baca, who has a prior felony conviction, will have to serve at least one-half of the sentence before he is eligible for parole.
