Byrd resigns as VISD superintendent

Vernon ISD Superintendent Jeff Byrd announced that he is resigning to accept the superintendent position in Dalhart. He was named as the lone finalist for the position of Dalhart ISD superintendent during a board meeting on June 2.
Byrd has served as Vernon ISD superintendent for the past five and a half years, replacing Tom Woody, and he also has previous superintendent experience at Claude ISD and Gorman ISD.
Byrd told the Vernon Record that it was a difficult decision, but he and his wife couldn’t let the opportunity pass. He said that his family has spent many years in the Panhandle and consider it their home region.
