Wilbarger burn ban is back

After a short hiatus to allow for agricultural cleanup and the Fourth of July holiday, the Wilbarger County Commissioners Court reinstated a burn ban for the county. The ban will last for 90 days.
The commissioners court met with Wilbarger Emergency Coordinator Cody Alexander on Monday to hear his assessment of the fire danger.
Alexander said all of Wilbarger County is under drought conditions, and it doesn’t look to get better anytime soon.
“It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to see we are in worse shape than when we dropped it for a little while,” Alexander said. “I highly recommend to reinstate the burn ban. Looking into the future, we may need to keep it a while.”
Commissioner Phillip Graf made a motion for a 90-day burn ban, with commissioner Scott Inglish giving the second. It was unanimously approved.

More from the commissioners meeting is online and print editions.
