Vernon College celebrated 50 years

A celebration ceremony to mark Vernon College’s 50th year of operation was held Friday afternoon, Sept. 2, 2022 in the King Center on the Vernon College campus in Vernon. The theme of the celebration was “Thank You Wilbarger County.”
The ceremony included comments from board of trustee chairman Bob Ferguson, College president Dr. Dusty Johnston, and Wilbarger County Judge Greg Tyra. A proclamation was presented by City of Vernon mayor Pam Gosline.
Former students Bob Beazley and Jane Robinson who attended the fall semester of 1972, shared their memories. Robinson, a Vernon College employee and student from the first class, held up a copy of the Vernon Regional Junior College Yearbook from 1973 while describing her experience as a student.
State senators Charles Perry and Drew Springer each spoke highly of the college.
Perry, Texas State Senator for District 28, read a proclamation honoring Vernon College’s 50th anniversary. Perry also presented the college with a flag that was flown over the state capital.
Tatyanna Austin, a current student of Vernon College, delivered her message during the college’s 50th anniversary celebration on how Vernon College has positively affected her life.
Chamber of Commerce Redcoats including, Kathy Craighead, Will Chilton, Jennifer Gillis, Karla Singleton, Toby Kitchens, Cheyanne Nava, Kris Fritze, Valerie Wright, Randall Mints, Callee Serrano, and Charles MacArthur served as greeters.
