Burn ban ends

The Wilbarger County Commissioners Court was convened Monday at their Courtroom in the Wilbarger County Courthouse, County Judge Greg Tyra presiding.
On the advice of the Vernon Fire Chief Chris Cook, the commissioners voted unanimously to lift the County’s burn ban effective immediately. It was noted that that after a dry start to the year, the past month has seen above average rainfall.
With no one from the public there to comment, the Commissioners approved the property tax rate of $0.533952 per $100 in valuation for the upcoming year. This is down from last year’s rate of $0.566194.
Again, without any public comment the Commissioners approved the county’s budget for FY2023 at $11,825,262. This is up almost $2 million from last year’s budget of $9,962,443.00. Judge Tyra attributed the budget increase to the rising cost of fuel and utilities.
The commissioners appointed Michael Smith to the Board of Directors of the Nortex Housing Finance Corporation.
The meeting went into executive session then adjourned with no further action taken.
