VISD board approves demolition contract

The Vernon Independent School District board of trustees met in regular session Monday.
Board president Emory Byars led the invocation and the pledges of allegiance to both the American and Texas flags.
The board commended Lindsay Streit, RN, FNP, for her donation of dechoker devices to all campuses.
The board then presented an award of recognition to Tammy Newcomer noting her 21 years of service to the school district. Newcomer is leaving the VISD for other opportunities.
Trustees approved a contract for demolition at the high school with Precision Demolition for $107,694. This will include removing the existing canopy in front of the school and some offices at the front of the school as well.
Approval was given by the board for the acting superintendent, or the assistant superintendent to negotiate and execute purchase of property on Stadium Drive.
The board then adjourned with no further actions taken.
The next regular meeting of the VISD board of trustees is scheduled from 6:30 to 9 p.m., Oct. 17.
