Vernon awarded grant to aid in replacing water line

The City if Vernon has been notified that it has been awarded an Economic Development Grant from the U.S. Departmetn of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration in the amount of $2,930,000 in support of the Vernon Water Line Project.
City Manager Marty Mangum said the grant will help the city replace more of the old deteriorating water line that runs from the water well fields in northern Wilbarger County, down to Vernon water treatment plant.
“(The grant money) should construct approximately three miles of 24-inch water line. This would be in addition to the 8 ½ miles we are constructing with the $12,000,000 Certificate of Obligation bond money that we issued recently. The total length of the pipeline is 16 ½ miles. These two projects will replace all of the oldest of the line which was built in 1953,” Mangum said.
